What is your “mic drop” moment?

I was coaching a coach earlier this week when I had to explain something that I thought all coaches and therapists knew. The “mic drop” moment.

What is your “mic drop” moment at work? If you do not have one, then that may be precisely why joy is not found at work. Not even joy, let’s say satisfaction, or a moment to live for. Yes, some of us live for “mic drop” moments in the work that we do. Why couldn’t you?

Sometimes just a little help is needed. First of all, a “mic drop” moment is a moment of re-energized alignment. Yes, bankers and athletes, and non-spiritual people can have those as well. By re-energized I mean the feeling in the body similar to your billions of cells saying “yes!” This happens when your team scores or you win a lottery ticket. By alignment I mean your body as well as your mind acknowledging that this is a moment shared.

When providing therapy, regulating symptoms of depression and anxiety are definitely an objective. We have a plan. I introduce techniques. The patient does their part and slowly the symptoms subside. I have a “mic drop” moment when they say, “ I feel good today.”

I am overly minimizing the process here. Medication can be part of the treatment as well as other alternative methodologies.

The point I am making is that the “mic drop” moment for all of us is different. In my coaching practice, the “mic drop” moment occurs when a client upscales their business, they close a contract, or makes a real estate purchase. The mind-body connection is re-energized in that moment for me. They win and I win.

Take account of what moments during work bring you that winning feeling. They can be small moments. Do they happen when you work alone or with a team? Does having one of these moments a day help you balance out the other tedious tasks? Do you really hate your job, or do you not yet know what gives you a “mic drop” moment?
